Where was he before he bought Twitter? I was aware of him, but not the in-your-face way he is now. Dirty fingers in everybody's pies.
He wasn't in Trump's arena back in 2015, was he? |

No, he was a lot more lib-leaning before then. He joined Trump onstage in 2023*, after reversing the hate-speech ban imposed by Twitter.
He made his money with PayPal, then Tesla and SpaceX. When he announced his intentions of buying Twitter that set him on a path against the libs and he's been leaning into it since. *correction: it was July 2024. |

Yesterday, I watched a YouTube interview with his daughter. She says he was never liberal and if you watched his moves, you'd see it.
--- His business, however, depended (s) on sales to liberals so he tried to appear so. But he moved his stuff out of (liberal) California to avoid their pesky regulations and taxes. He moved it to (conservative) Texas where they had none. His tirades about Twitter were ridiculous, too, but a ridiculous path taken up by people on both sides. He (they) claim it was (is) about 1st amendment but the 1st Amendment applies to the government not Twitter. And, of course, he was lying as he doesn't allow certain types of posts on Twitter, anyway. So, no "1st Amendment absolutist." |

Why haven't they been run out of DC on a rail by now? The rail line southbound from Washington Union Station is quite serviceable. For that matter, why does anybody listen to either of them about anything? Because it requires an act of the republican majority congress to impeach them, and the republican controlled senate to convict them. Or a Jan 6 style coup that's actually successful. Otherwise, we're stuck with them until the next 2028 presidential election. If there is one.
ETA: Well, there IS the 25th amendment, but all of the people designated are trumpsuckers, so don't expect that from them. It's even less likely than the current congress to do it. And Musk is not subject to impeachment. Donnie has to throw him under the bus, in which case 'running him out on a rail' won't be necessary. Last edited by C2H5OH; 4th April 2025 at 12:03 PM. |

Well yes, of course I know that the Republicans in Congress have collectively less backbone than a single moon jellyfish, and not even having their own lives in danger on 1/7/2021 was enough to make any real change. And yes I know that Vance likely won't be a material improvement.
There's no way out of this until enough of the country purges themselves of Republican elected officials. |

Perhaps. There's a quote about how frequently to replace elected officials and why. I think it's attributed to Will Rogers. I personally believe it is necessary to remind politicians that they are employees of We the collective People.
Still -- Zeener, if you made a list of politicians you'd like removed from office, I anticipate no more than 5% of your list would be Democrats. |

Lets keep in mind that the true purpose, and what it says on the label, are two different things.
If you want to create American jobs, you pick an industry where we have a competitive advantage and help it along with grants & loans, R&D programs, and funding to train up a good supply of skilled workers. If you want to bust the middle class down to peasants, you start a trade war with everyone in the world at once. |

So the felon has reversed the tariffs. And Demos are accusing him of fostering insider trading among his inner circle.
Makes sense. 1. Announce massive tariffs across the board 2. Stocks tank 3. Sweep in and buy them for pennies on the dollar 4. Rescind all tariffs 5. PROFIT!!!!!!!! |

This is something I thought I’d never see. It’s as if it’s 1939 again.
This is from Politico today. The department, according to a copy of an internal cable obtained by POLITICO, will work with an administration-wide task force to collect information “involving anti-religious bias during the last presidential administration” and will collect examples of anti-Christian bias through anonymous employee report forms. Freedom of religion? Remember when we had the right to be or not be? I guess we’re done with the first amendment. |

If you put him in front of a mirror, I doubt it would matter much to him. Trumpy will just admire himself in a mirror, and nothing at all will bother him at all. Does Canada pay the tarrifs is the only bit he cares about? And he's too stupid to understand that it's own supporters who are paying for it.

The SCOTUS tells team trumpy to facilitate the return of the man wrongfully deported to South America. What does the admin say…
Trump meets with Bukele: The Trump administration and El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele made clear during an Oval Office meeting today that the Maryland man who was wrongly deported to El Salvador won’t be brought back to the US. White House officials have argued it’s up to El Salvador whether to do so, despite a Supreme Court ruling that the US must “facilitate” his return. So the courts no longer have authority in America. 2025 is a scary year. |

It appears the White House found a loophole as far as defying SCOTUS. Step 1: Deport someone inside the US to a foreign prison. Step 2: SCOTUS demands the return of deportee. Step 3: The White House says, "Hey, we tried, but he's under foreign jurisdiction." I can see years of court bickering over the definition of "facilitate." EDIT: Step 4: Will SCOTUS hold Trump responsible for doing it again? Remains to be seen, but Magic Eightball says "Probably not." Last edited by Zeener Diode; 14th April 2025 at 01:00 PM. |

Definitely not because the Court is no longer truly independent. It has been bought and paid for by the activist billionaires who shamelessly do business with Alito and Thomas out in the open, and no doubt influence the other conservatives on the bench one way or another. I mean it's cute that Coney-Barrett thinks she has judicial independence, but the other (male) conservatives on the bench would probably tell her to go make them a coffee and a sandwich before letting her get too comfortable carving out nuanced concurrences.

Agreed.
At least there are 35 Senator Seats up for election in 2026 and 20 are Republican. But it will take a lot of people who voted Trump in 24 to vote for Democrats in 26. 36 States will be electing a Governor in 26, so that is also hopeful. It looks like these are split with 18 Republicans held states up. So if these elections all happen, Trump could be repudiated, but I'm not holding my breath on this one. |

Alas, the "IF" isn't just the outcomes - it's how much the Republicans will obstruct voting and whether the elections will be considered legitimate by non-MAGA.
