https://www.theguardian.com/society/....lifeandhealth this might be worth a read. Especially interesting for me were the reactions of some famous people I admire.

If you ever lose your feet, the first place you should check is in your shoes.

Medical science has advanced somewhat since those geezers had it. And improving all the time. So I think the risk of you losing your feet is almost the same as for the statistical average (by injury, infection etc).

So long as he avoids alligator-infested swamps, that is.

Well yes, that's what he's doing wrong.

You might have a point.

I read about some sweet fishes that live in a pond, and you can put your toes in there and they nibble away at the dead skin and make your feet absolutely fabulous.

I now realize that salt water crocodiles might be a tad overkill.

Salties are great for removing those pesky limbs. Just don't let them get your organs. It will change your day and cause you a degree of inconvenience.

Crap, another flareup and so soon after the last one (eight months ago). I haven't had a beer in months, and haven't had a glass of wine for about a week due to a nasty cold. I am resolving myself to the realization that this will be a regular part of my life going on. Although that chainsaw is looking damn attractive right about now...

Damn. I feel guilty, drinking beer and eating whatever I want. I during gallons of water, though. Waking up to pee at 1 and 3 sucks, but it beats pain.

No need to feel guilty. I didn't give up beer over the gout, just that wine fits my home cuisine more once the weather turns cooler. If a friend were to call today and invite me out for burgers and beers, I'd accept in a heartbeat. And I also drink about a gallon of water a day. This flare-up was fairly mild, and almost gone now. One bad day, a few grandpa days and it's pretty much over. Just surprised that that the attacks are coming more frequently. It's what FBI profilers would call "escalation".

I had the same worry, Nonny, but there seems to be no lick of reason as to when the attacks hit. I had nothing, the boom boom and I thought "oh fuck me', and then peaceful nothing. Knock on wood, and peace to your toes.
