CANDY MEGAPOLL VOLCANO LAIR OF DOOM! aka the Mission Command thread

@Fenris can you make this a sticky? With all this sugar around that ought to be easy

Instead of having administrative type stuff spread out over a bunch of threads, I'd rather just have one central location for all that. That will leave more room for petty bickering in the nomination and individual poll threads, because that's what megapolls are all about

NOMINATION THREAD HERE

Nominations will be accepted through 7:59 pm EDT on 9-1-16 (Thursday) and I will start to post the Round One polls Thursday night. I have a big deadline coming up at work for Wednesday, plus this will give anyone who didn't see the start of the poll plenty of time to get their suggestions in. I'm not as nice as Idle Thoughts so I won't be adding any late entries once the first round polls are posted.

I haven't decided yet how long each individual round will last, so let me know what you think.

This is a stupid idea for a megapoll filled with stupid entries run by a stupid poster because stupid.

Also, I can't think of anything.

Maybe 3 days per round until the semi-finals or so and then longer?

Bitterness and acrimony need time to marinate.

Yeah. I would also like a mechanism wherein we have the nomination posted about 24 hours before the voting opens so there is the potential to sway votes. But that may be too complicated.

More work than I feel like doing

I'll go to 4 days per round, and if people want to campaign for a favorite and hold their votes until the last possible second they can. I'm going to do timed polls, and any that end in a tie when time expires will be decided by random.org so vote-swaying skillz could be veeeery important indeed...

Fenris sez that if you change your mind, he will change your vote if you explicitly ask him in the thread, not by PM.

Rat Diva you have broken my heart by disallowing rice crispy treats and candy coated popcorn. (caramel corn, crackerjacks, the screaming yellow zonkers linked in the other thread etc)

You can if you chew up a whole box at once (or a whole packet of the Chiclet minis) and you're careful not to blow too hard.

Doubtful that the "mention" tags will find @Dirx, wherever he may be, but giving it a try here. As a past megapoll participant and a self-declared sugar fiend it would be cool to lure him back for this.

**FRESH** Whoppers. Where the malted milk stuff in the middle has zero moisture or chew to it. Most Whoppers aren't really fresh and the middle is kind of chewey. It shouldn't be. It should just dissolves into malty-goodness in your mouth. If you've never had really fresh ones, you don't know what you're missing.

Malted milk balls are false advertising. They look like nummy little bits of chocolate, but they taste like sahara dust and industrial glue. Nope nope nope.

Hey Ratty, a thought for you.

With the length of your nominations list, you're looking at nine rounds of regular single-elimination, and well over a hundred matches just to clear the first round. You might want to do something different than the usual one-on-ones to get it underway. You could just do three-way matches, with just one winner advancing. Or, you could do a set of multiple-choice qualifying groups, where people can vote at once for everything they like on the list, and the top 30-40% of each group goes into the single-elim bracket (to be matched against stuff from the other qualifying groups). The advantage, perhaps, to the latter is that if there are two really well-liked things in the same starting group, they can both move up.

Anyway, your game, your call.

I just hope you don't do all of a round at the same time. I had trouble keeping up last time and when I logged in the first few days, I had pages of new threads/posts to read.

I agree with Pogo. Break up at least the first round over several days. It gives us more of a chance to feud over petty differences that way.

Then what I'll do is, I'll split Round 1 into 4 groups of 30-ish polls each and release one batch a day. That'll make for sustained vitriol and spite that lasts like an Everlasting Gobstopper.

That'll make it easier for me to keep track of the winners a bit at a time instead of weeding through umpty-zillion polls at once.

Everybody wins that way!

Ok, first batch of Round 1 polls are posted. Watch tomorrow for the second batch, same bat time, same bat channel.

And if anyone's wondering about the random text, I thought it would be a fitting tribute to the late great Gene Wilder by cramming in as many Willy Wonka references as possible

I'm leaving tomorrow morning for my annual family Labor Day Weekend gathering (and for all you people who voted against it in the food poll, I will not think of you as I eat my corn-on-the-cob) and won't be back until sometime Monday evening. I may or may not have time to check in on my tablet.

I'm probably not the only one doing Labor Day Weekend stuff, though. Is it possible to keep the rest of the polls open a little extra time?
