Cool, the only reason people want a big wedding is to have an excuse for lots of drinking. Which they'll be doing NYE. Let us know how it goes!

We must see pictures of this! And what a perfect occasion that suits you both and your story. Good luck, I hope everything goes even better than you hope!

Ok, I'm going to try and get pictures up by the end of the day, but I wanted everyone to know that IT WAS AMAZING AND PERFECT AND BEAUTIFUL!!!! Truly, it was everything we hoped for and then some. I'm so happy this is how we did it, and it felt in the end like it was meant to be.
We decorated the house and started the party at 9:00 and at about 10:30 once everyone we were expecting had arrived I snuck in the back with my best friend. She and her husband knew about it ahead of time, as well as Sam's best friend Keith, who acted as our officiant, and his wife Marianne (since its pretty impossible to pull something like this off without any other help!). Anyway, after we snuck into my room she helped me tie on a huge white tutu covered in gold glitter, and we got the secret bouquet out of the closet. Then she went up front, and cued the other helpers. Her husband said we wanted to make a toast, and asked everyone to come into the front room. Once everyone was there, Marianne (who's a professional violinist) picked up the violin we'd hidden and began to play the wedding march. Since it was a surprise, no one was really looking as I rounded the hall from our bedroom and started to walk towards the crowd, but a guest saw me out of the corner of her eye and gasped, and everyone turned around. I tell you, in that moment I literally forgot how to walk! But I remembered soon enough and made it to the front where Sam and Keith were waiting. The ceremony was very short (5 minutes) but it was lovely and Keith did it exactly right. It was his first wedding to officiate (he got certified for us) but he made it so perfect. When it was over everyone clapped, and the party continued on (although our parents and friends were pretty shocked and crying!). The funniest part was all the strangers that were crying! We had a number of people of the party who were friends of friends, and even friends of friends of friends (since it was a New Year's Party, not a wedding) but they were all so touched. They said it was obvious Sam and I were very in love and happy together, and they were all thankful to have been a part of it. It's funny, because I was SO WORRIED that I was making them miserable! I thought, who would want to see the wedding of a couple you never met before? But everyone loved it, and in fact I think I made a few friends that night. Like I said, we can't be strangers anymore; you were at my wedding! ![]() So, again, thanks you guys. I really truly don't think it would have gone down without this thread, and I'm so glad that I have the memory of that night. I'm so glad I didn't have the wedding we almost had, and I'm so glad we didn't elope. This was perfect. This was us. ps I don't know if this will work but there are ton of pictures, and video of the ceremony and our first dance up on facebook. I have no idea how to link to that, but my name Elizabeth Compton if any of you knows how to find it? |

I can see that your profile pic is the two of you getting hitched - that's wonderful! You had the wedding you wanted and on YOUR terms! Beautiful. Who could ask for anything more?

I think this will work; it's a link to a facebook photo album. Obviously I am terrible at this though, so...
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...1&l=87c3dd44ea We're still adding pictures. We didn't have a photographer, we just relied on the fact that everyone always has a camera to handle it. Which seems to be working well! Although, if you want to be sure to get certain shots, I do not recommend this idea. |
